Sunny Mates and Murders Raina Sun 5 Anne R TanThis book was very interesting as in encompasses more Chinese lore and more information about the family.
The way the Ms. Tan winds her way through the story she paints in her books is beautifully done. She has expertly and slowly given us more and more of her, I'm assuming, heritage. She has given us snippets in each book. Just enough to keep us looking forward to more. Dressing the characters in fancier and more beautiful accouterments as we went through each book. Until finally more and more is revealed and we understand. Instead of inundating us at the begin so we get confused.
I love how complex and thorough she is in building up the characters. Raina finally comes full swing with Matthew but it had to take a tour though Sonny Chan, the seven dragons boss asking Raina to be his fake fiancé for his grandfathers birthday. Of course Po Po does her normal silliness and amazing slight of hands that make her such an endearing character.
Can't say more about the book except i absolutely cant wait for the next one!

Anne Tan is fun to read. Her characters from Po Po to everyone else are wonderful. And our main detective is a blast. What a life she leads and the trouble she gets into and out of!! I have enjoyed the whole series and hope they continue!!!
I love the quirky characters Anne writes, I finish the books and lie in bed wondering what they are doing. My pet peeves are poor editing, poor plot and poorly written characters. I have never been disappointed with this author
This book was a way to learn a little bit about Chinese customs regarding gang related and drug business as well as the family customs when a member of the family passes away.
It was a quick topsy, turvy mystery involving Rains Sun, an amateur sleuth.
When a body falls in Raina's lap, she is quickly thrown into the wrath of the family gang while trying to solve the murder of the eldest son.
A very quick read for those who like a fun, cozy murder mystery.
I have been enthralled from the moment I picked up my first book in this series. Loved the story line and am rooting for Matthew and Raina to get together. These books remind me of the Evanovich series with Stephanie Plum. There's even the reference to Raina destroying phones, not cars. Anne R. Tan writes the Chinese version of Evanovich's books. Who is channeling whom?
I really like Raina and PoPo. I’m eager to find out about her grandfather’s second family because that story line is becoming old. With that said, this one falls a little flat for me. I don’t really understand the Chinese mob situation and overall, just a little too unbelievable. Still a good way to spend a few hours, but I hope the series gets better...not worse.
I love Raina Sun, I love Po Po, her grandmother, and her grandmother's friends. All the Raina Sun books are fun, funny, well written, fast paces, and more than worth the time. I read the first three in two days. Her situations are different, her family problems on two continents instead of one, and her life is a blend of her grandfather's past, and her own fast paced, complicated life. It's estranged her from her siblings, but drawn her closer to her grandmother, and their relationship is marvelous.
If you're Chinese, or know a lot of Chinese people, you know Amy R. Tan's books ring true. If you don't, you can learn.
Ann R Tan writes well and every Rainey mystery is fun to read! Rainey's on again off again relationship with hunky detective Matthew brings a bit of romance to each book. Rainey's nutty grandma Po Po provides some laughs. In this one, Rainy poses as the fiancé of the head of a
Chinese crime family to attend a birthday party for his father, primarily to make his ex ( who married someone else) jealous. During the party his brother is killed. How Rainey solves the mystery of who done it will have you reading up into the night until you finish the book!
